We are Finally Married! 2016 Reflections

Happy New Year everyone! :)

Today, as I was reflecting on 2016, I realized this past year has been an absolute roller coaster. I have experienced some of the best and most challenging times in my entire life. I started my first job as a registered nurse, which came with the most exciting and stressful moments I have ever experienced.

 

The most exciting things I did was travel to Turkey for Istanbul Modest Fashion Week and plan my dream wedding! The end of this year came with a huge shock with the passing of Omar’s uncle due to a major heart attack. He was a father figure to Omar’s entire family, especially after the passing of Omar’s father 4 years ago. Allah Yerhamo. He was a beloved friend to my family and many of our friends in our close-knit community, so we decided to reschedule the wedding to a later date in order to allow time to heal the wounded hearts in our family. Ina Lillahi Wa Ina Ilayhi Rajioun. “To God we belong and to Him we shall return”.

In difficult times, I always remind myself that Allah is the only One in control. He has our lives written before we are even born. Every single hardship is a test, and Allah tests the ones that He loves. So Alhamdullilah that “with hardship comes ease.” Always remember this when facing any challenge in your life. We may have plans for ourselves, but Allah is the best of planners! Alhamdulillah!

So on December 30th 2016, the day we had originally scheduled for our wedding, we finally made it official at the courthouse! We had been religiously married/engaged for 3 years, but decided that we couldn’t wait to be married any longer! It was a low-key day. We went to sign the paper and took some photos in my neighborhood for memories. But it was so meaningful! Alhamdulillah for everything!
